The origin of the name
M A M A T U A N U K U
has been woven together by two words
Papātūānuku = Earth Mother
Māmā = Mother
to serve as a reminder of the interconnected nature between
Women and the Earth
“Ma te hauora o te whaea, ka piki te ora o te whanau, hapu me nga iwi katoa”

Ko wai au?
Kiaora, my name is Charlotte Manawanui Christie.
I am Mother to three beautiful children, Hinemaia, Taiao and Aio.
I am of Ngapuhi, Rongomaiwahine + Kahungunu bloodlines.
I hail from the the ancestral lands of Te Mahia mai Tawhiti and from here, I feel the whole Universe.
We have whakapapa links to the heart of the bush in Mangamuka, Hokianga and the Far North. We also connect up to the lake; Waikaremoana, to Whakapunake te Matau-a-maui-tikitiki-a-Taranga, Te Wairoa-hopupu-honengenenge-matangirau and out to Mahia through te Punawai-o-Tangaroa.
I grew up dancing on the beach, drawing my dreams in the sand and raising my babies here in the vibration and mana of our chieftenness, Rongomaiwahine. Alongside my mother and many other treasured hau-kainga, it is with great honour that I serve with aroha from this whenua. I would not be doing this mahi without my precious teachers, whanau, + pou.
My whole life has been a culmination of learning, lessons, training, study and putting into practise the real life action, delivery and embodiment of these ancient teachings aswell as the real life human ones.
From a very young age, I was inspired to learn Rongoā and trained with some incredible teachers in the healing field along with other matauranga maori experts, tohunga in their field and historians, local knowledge keepers and creative artists, navigators and activators.
Mamatuanuku was birthed as a vessel to create and draw from. Upon which a whole whariki - foundation of offerings can be offered to the world. To inspire change, impact and healing in our people and our whenua - the vibration that moves through all things.
“it is through the sanctity of wahine that all things are restored”.
- Charlotte Manawanui Christie
I want to acknowledge all of my ancestors and the precious kuia, koroua, aunties, uncles, matua + whaea, all the teachers and mentors who I have been so honoured and lucky to learn from over the years. Those who lovingly entrusted in my deep listening and encouraged my own journey of rediscovery.
I would not be able to do this mahi without the strength + guidance of my pou and so I want to say thankyou - you know who you are.
I want to also mention my tama-ariki; for being the greatest teachers of life I ever could have asked for. The greatest degree I will ever have is being your mama - so thankyou from the bottom of my heart for choosing me to be your mum - Hinemaia, Taiao + Aio.
My hope is to use this one precious life I was given, to be of highest service to my whanau, hapu, iwi and ultimately to our great mother - Papatuanuku from whom I draw alot of strength.
My family, my Mum and Dad for bringing me into this Ao - there are no words to express my deep love for you. Thankyou for nurturing me, and teaching me to never give up.
I believe in the power of the ancestral lineage we all hold that connect us back to the beginning of time. To one another and the origin of all things. To our innate ability to heal, transmute, transform and evolve both individually and as a collective.
Each one of us has been given a role, a unique essence to celebrate + share. It is in the sharing of these gifts that we make the world a better place and take up our space in the circle of life.
