Ixchel’s whakapapa originates from Meso-America/Central America and upholds great honour and prestige in the Mayan world. For Maori, her attributes are similar is to Hina-te-iwaiwa. Being cyclical in her nature, she governs and works with the moon cycles, the tides, emotions, the waters within and also the flames of fertility, conception and healing. Ixchel is the Goddess of the Rainbow. She navigates realms within realms. She has a fierce strength and gentleness that heals and transmutes. She is honoured as the atua wahine of women's health and wellbeing. Old stories from the ancient ones speak of the whakapapa ties Maori have with the Mayan people.
